What Are Self Ligating Braces?
Self-ligating braces are advanced orthodontic braces that use special brackets with built-in clips or sliding doors to hold the orthodontic wire in place.
Unlike traditional braces, they do not require elastic bands (ligatures) to secure the wire. This innovative mechanism allows the wire to move more freely within the bracket, reducing friction and enabling more efficient tooth movement in appropriate cases.
The Mechanism
How Do Self Ligating Braces Work?
The treatment follows the same basic principle as conventional braces—applying controlled pressure to move teeth into their ideal position. However, instead of elastic ties:
- Locking Bracket: The bracket contains a built-in locking mechanism.
- Smooth Wire Slide: The wire slides smoothly through the brackets.
- Friction Reduction: Less friction is created between the wire and brackets.
- Efficient Movement: Teeth move more naturally and efficiently.
This technology allows orthodontists to make precise adjustments while improving patient comfort throughout the teeth straightening journey.
